Abstract This conversation between Michaela Benson and Manuela Boatcă focuses on the coloniality of citizenship. Where dominant understandings citizenship link this to emergence nation its national political community, considers what we can learn about present-day global social inequalities from examining development through a close consideration Manuela's work topic. It takes as starting point those excluded rights membership communities, make visible how alleged equality achieved were acquired at expense gendered racialized “Others.” As unfolds, enduring colonial entanglements in migration regime—the citizenship—are revealed, alongside these, new insights into border struggles within states.
